With a heavy heart | dewerstone closes its doors

Thank You, and Goodbye

Our Mission
It is our responsibility to protect the environment our brand is built upon.

Over the last 12 years, we have lived and breathed that mission. Dewerstone was never just about making clothing. It was about standing for something bigger, and making sure the way we ran our business reflected the values we believed in.

Now, as we close this chapter, we want to take a moment to share some of the things we’re most proud of, not just as a brand, but as a community.

Highlights from 12 Years of Dewerstone

When the call came from our store in Indonesia
At the peak of COVID, tourism collapsed and incomes disappeared overnight. Together with our community, we delivered 1,000's of food parcels, feeding hundreds of families in need.

In 2019, we joined 1% for the Planet
From that day on, we gave over 1% of our income (not profits) to environmental non-profits every single year. That’s over £39,000 to grassroots environmental action, plus another £10,000 to other charities close to our hearts.

In 2021, we certified as a B Corp
We scored 98.6 points on our first certification and were on track to recertify in 2025 at 110, proof that we were still improving, still pushing, still raising our standards.

We stood up for what we believed in
We boycotted Black Friday. We printed merch for free for non-profits through Impact Threads. We campaigned for free-flowing rivers. We organised community litter picks. We planted over 70,000 trees in Indonesia.

Most of all, we built a community
A group of people who shared our values, supported our mission, and made everything possible. From customers to collaborators, from ambassadors to friends, you were the heart of dewerstone.

Why We’re Closing

We’ve always been honest with our community, so here’s the truth: the numbers just didn’t work anymore.

Brexit cut off our growing European market. COVID brought a short-lived boom for the outdoors, but what followed was a steep decline. Energy costs, especially electricity, skyrocketed. Business rates and employment costs rose faster than sales could keep up. And with debt hanging over us, the gap became impossible to close.

The reality is, we’re not alone. Across the UK, small businesses, independent shops, and even long-established business are closing for the same reasons. We’ve fallen to the same economic pressures, not because we gave up, but because we gave it everything we had.

A Business for Good

dewerstone wasn’t just a clothing brand. It was a way of doing business that proved you can put purpose before profit and still create something lasting.

We close our doors knowing we stayed true to our mission. Knowing that we stood up for what we believed in. Knowing that we made a difference.

And while the brand ends here, the community lives on. The shared values live on. The love for the outdoors lives on.

Thank you for every order, every conversation, every shared adventure, and every moment of support. You’ve helped create something truly special.
