5 Top Tips to the perfect 'Dawn Raid'

We love a Dawny or Dawn Raid. It really is the best way to start a day no matter what you love doing. This time its white water kayaking and Eddy gives us 5 top tips on how to make the best of your early start.
You've got to be in work for 9:00 a.m but the conditions are perfect for an early shred, it's time for a Dawn Raid! In these dark Winter months you need to be super committed to make it work.
Set two alarms
I've got up at 3 a.m before to get some pre-work laps in, so you're probably going to be coming out of a pretty deep sleep, and if you're anything like me, the first alarm doesn't quite work!

Pre-Pack your kit!

This is a pretty obvious one! Nobody wants to be digging out their kit in the early hours, and if if you have a family like me, you want to be able to sneak out of the house like a ninja. Save time, and make less noise. Get the car loaded the night before!

Chuck some gear on before you head out

I always at least leave the house in my thermals, it saves time at the other end and there is nothing worse than stripping down in the dark (and usually rain if you're kayaking).

Bring a head torch!

If you want to make it to work in time you probably want to be hitting the river or trail just as it starts to get light, which for me usually means a hike in the dark, sometimes on some pretty sketchy paths! So a head torch is usually pretty essential, a waterproof one is probably best for you outdoor adventurers!

Work out what time you need to hit the road!

Set a latest leaving time and stick to it! It's easy to get carried away when you're doing what you love so keep track of time and don't be late.

And here is our top tip to add to these: If you are going to be late then take cake!
